The short answer: match the grade to the contents.
Anything edible or potable needs a Grade A food-grade tote — previously held FDA-approved contents, triple-rinsed and sanitized. Everything else (rainwater, brine, compost tea, process water, dust control) is a perfect job for a Grade B industrial tote at a lower price and a fraction of the footprint. Need virgin packaging? Four questions that pick the tote for you
You don't need to memorize a spec sheet to buy the right container. Work through four quick questions and the answer falls out almost every time.
- Is it edible or potable? If yes, you need Grade A food-grade. If no, Grade B industrial is cheaper and greener.
- How much volume per pallet? 330 gallon maximizes volume; 275 gallon when height or weight is constrained.
- Does a spec demand virgin packaging? Regulated, audited or sanitary programs may require a new first-trip tote.
- Want fresh plastic but lower footprint? A rebottled tote pairs a new bottle with a reused steel cage.

Grade & history
Food-grade (A) carries documented edible history and a sanitizing wash; industrial (B) costs less.
Size
330 gallon holds more per pallet position than 275 and is priced accordingly.

Which IBC tote should I buy for my project?
Match the grade to the contents. Anything edible or potable needs a Grade A food-grade tote. Non-potable jobs — rainwater, brine, compost tea, dust control, process water — are perfect for a lower-cost Grade B industrial tote. Choose a new first-trip tote when a spec demands virgin packaging, or a rebottled tote when you want a fresh HDPE bottle while still reusing the steel cage.
What is the price difference between used, rebottled and new totes?
As a rule, used Grade B totes are the most affordable, used Grade A food-grade sit a step above, rebottled totes (new bottle in a reused cage) land in the middle, and new first-trip totes are the most expensive because both the bottle and cage are virgin. Quantity and freight then move the final per-tote number up or down.
Do all your totes share the same footprint?
Yes. Every 275 and 330 gallon tote we stock sits on the standard 48 x 40 inch pallet footprint, so they rack and load identically. Only the height changes: a 275 stands about 46 inches, a 330 about 53 inches. Plan your vertical clearance accordingly, especially if you stack two high.
Can I order a mix of grades and sizes on one shipment?
Absolutely. A common order pairs a few Grade A food-grade 275s for one process with several Grade B industrial 330s for bulk storage. We palletize and quote the whole thing as a single delivery to keep your freight efficient.
