Reconditioned & rebottled

Reuse the steel. Refresh the bottle.

The steel cage and pallet are the most carbon-intensive parts of a tote — and they last for decades. Reconditioned and rebottled totes keep that steel working while giving you the cleanliness you need.

The difference in one minute

Reconditioned vs. rebottled

Reconditioned

Original bottle, cleaned & certified

The tote's own HDPE bottle is triple-rinsed, pressure-tested, re-gasketed and re-valved, then graded. The lowest-footprint option — nothing is replaced that doesn't need to be.

  • · Lowest cost & footprint
  • · Food-grade (A) or industrial (B)
  • · Documented prior contents
Rebottled

New bottle, reused cage

A brand-new HDPE bottle is dropped into a reused, inspected steel cage and pallet. You get new-tote bottle cleanliness while still reusing the most energy-intensive components.

  • · New bottle, fresh gasket & valve
  • · Reused cage keeps steel in service
  • · Great middle ground vs. new

Reconditioned vs. rebottled

The distinction, line by line

Both reuse the steel. The difference is whether the bottle that touches your product is the original cleaned one or a brand-new replacement.

What we check before it ships

Whether a tote is reconditioned or rebottled, the steel and fittings pass the same structured inspection. Here is what every unit goes through.

Intake & sort

Prior contents logged; food-history kept separate from industrial; nothing hazardous processed.

Wash or rebottle

Original bottle triple-rinsed and sanitized, or swapped for a brand-new HDPE bottle.

Pressure & leak test

Each bottle checked for cracks, stress whitening and valve seal integrity.

Re-gasket & re-valve

Worn 2-inch valves and gaskets replaced; the 6-inch cap and vent confirmed sound.

Cage & pallet repair

Bent tubes straightened, broken welds repaired, the 4-way pallet base reinforced.

Grade, label & stock

The unit is graded, tagged with its history, and added to ready inventory.

The carbon math

Where rebottling saves the carbon

A new IBC tote embodies roughly 55–70 kg of CO₂e, and the lion's share of that comes from forming the steel cage and pallet — ore mining, smelting and galvanizing. Rebottling keeps that steel in service and replaces only the bottle, so you capture most of the environmental win even with a brand-new HDPE bottle. Reconditioning, which reuses the original bottle too, saves more still.

A condemned bottle is never the end of the road: it is shredded into HDPE regrind that re-enters the plastics supply chain, and steel cages and pallets are sorted to metal recyclers. Regrind is the last resort, not the first.

~60 kg

CO₂e avoided per reused tote vs. new.

~180 L

Process water conserved per reused tote.

~18 kg

~95 kWh

Manufacturing energy avoided per tote.

Refresh questions

Reconditioned & rebottled, answered

What is the difference between reconditioned and rebottled?
A reconditioned tote keeps its original HDPE bottle, which is triple-rinsed, pressure-tested, re-gasketed and re-valved, then graded — the lowest-footprint option because nothing is replaced that does not need to be. A rebottled tote pairs a brand-new HDPE bottle with a reused, inspected steel cage and pallet, giving you new-tote bottle cleanliness while still reusing the most carbon-intensive components.
Why does reusing the steel cage matter so much?
The tubular-steel cage and pallet are the most energy- and carbon-intensive parts of an IBC because they require ore mining, smelting and galvanizing. They also routinely outlast many fill cycles. Keeping that steel in service — rather than smelting new — is where rebottling captures most of its environmental win, even when the plastic bottle is brand new.
Is a rebottled tote as clean as a brand-new one?
For the bottle itself, yes — the HDPE bottle that touches your product is brand new and never filled, with a fresh gasket and valve. The difference from a full first-trip tote is the reused steel frame around it. If your spec requires a never-used cage and a UN design-type marking, choose a new first-trip tote instead.
Can I get a reconditioned tote as food-grade?
Yes. A reconditioned tote can be Grade A food-grade when its original bottle only ever held FDA-approved edible contents and passed the triple-rinse plus sanitizing wash. For maximum bottle cleanliness without buying fully new, a rebottled unit with a fresh food-contact bottle is the sweet spot.
